"There are some canals in Helsinki. Perhaps the most known is the Katajanokan kanava in downtown. It connects the mainland Helsinki with the Katajanokka island and district. Katajanokka actually used to be a peninsula but the canal was dug about 200 years ago. Why it was dug, is a mystery to me.
Now that it's summer there are actually life around the canal. Many restaurants are active around it with terraces by the street. The restaurant ship Relandersgrund can be seen on the right hand side. Also the prominent Uspenski Cathedral is in the background. All in all, the canal area is very attractive now on summertime. And in the evening there are lights of many kind, with water giving them all a reflection."
